This
year marks a year since the formation of the Welsh Labour Government and Mike
Hedges AM is proud that it has been a year of delivery. A year where
Welsh Labour ministers have been standing up for Wales and standing up for
communities like Swansea East.
The
AM is pointing to a whole raft of measures that have been rolled out over the
last year including:
In
Education the most generous student support package anywhere in the UK. An
additional 500m for 21st Century Schools, part of an overall Welsh
Labour Government investment of £2bn on new and refurbished school buildings
across Wales. Including Ysgol Lon Las and Burlais Primary School.
The
health service has also benefited, Wales now has the best ambulance response
times anywhere in the UK and the NHS estate is seeing significant
investment.
Welsh
Labour has also hit the ground running in meeting its target of 20,000 new
affordable homes and increasing the capital limit – increasing the amount of
money people can keep when they go into care.
In
department after department Welsh Labour ministers are investing to safe guard
the future of Wales.
Locally the AM is also delighted with money
for Credit Unions like My Community Bank, Swansea and the Business Rates relief
scheme – Providing more than £200m of support to small businesses in Wales in
2017-18. This is providing help to more than three-quarters of businesses to
pay their rates and is ensuring that half of all small businesses in Wales are
paying no rates at all. And the Welsh Labour Government has listened to
businesses’ concerns over the 2017 revaluation by putting in place two bespoke
support schemes for those adversely affected. This will benefit many small
business in Swansea East.
Mike
Hedges AM said: “The way this Welsh Labour Government has hit the ground
running in this first year is making a real difference in Swansea East
“From
investment in schools and our NHS buildings to making our social care system
fairer, this is a government that acts in the interest of ordinary people
across Wales.”
“While
Welsh Labour is standing up for Wales the Tory’s in charge at Westminster
continue to act in the interest of the few.”
“I
am proud to support this Welsh Labour Government and look forward to working
with Welsh Labour ministers to continue the work of making Wales a better place
to live”
