October is International Credit Union Day where people come together to
celebrate the role of Credit Unions.
International Credit Union (ICU)
Day® celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is
recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history, promote its
achievements, recognize the hard work and share member experiences.
International Credit Union (ICU) Day® has been celebrated on the third Thursday
of October since 1948.
Mike Hedges AM said…. ‘I am
pleased to support the Credit Union Movement; I recognize the role that Credit
Unions play in supporting people who are on low incomes and who otherwise might
go to High Interest lenders or even loan sharks. When people are in a financial
crisis they often find it difficult to access loans from traditional lenders –
if you are in this situation, I would strongly urge you to get in touch with
your local credit union rather than go to anyone like Provident or a payday
lender.
