The guide dog for the blind challenge

I was invited by the guide dogs for the blind organisation in Wales to see for myself the difficulties of walking around a busy city centre when you are blind. I was given a white stick, had a blindfold put on and someone to make sure I didn’t fall over came around with me. The area covered was Oxford Street, Kingsway, Princess way and Portland Street. I was totally disoriented and quickly discovered the problems of uneven pavements and A boards as well as bins and other items projecting on to the pavement. I quickly realised how difficult being blind was and both the importance of looking after your sight and the need for pavements to be as uncluttered as possible
